Rebun Island, home to the Mitsui Kanko Hotel, is Japan’s northernmost remote island, located in the Sea of Japan, 60 kilometers west of Wakkanai City. It lies further offshore than Rishiri Island, and its name, “Repunshiri,” comes from the Ainu language, meaning “island offshore.” This small island, with a circumference of about 72 km and a population of approximately 2,400 people, has preserved a miraculous natural environment that has continued since ancient times. In the summer, visitors can witness the vibrant, emerald-green sea known as “Rebun Blue,” reminiscent of tropical waters. The island is also famous for its picturesque scenery and is known as the “Floating Island of Flowers” due to the roughly 300 species of alpine plants, including unique endemic species, that bloom there.
Following “Iki Retreat Kairi Murakami by Onko Chishin” and “Goto Retreat ray by Onko Chishin,” this will be our company’s third facility operation on remote border islands. Additionally, this will be our first time operating a hotel where we also own the building. Details regarding the operational policies of the facility are currently under discussion, and we will provide further information once they are finalized.Overview of MITSUI KANKO HOTEL
