The hotel will have a pre-opening (with some restrictions) on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and will officially rebrand and open on Thursday, April 24, 2025. The predecessor, “Mitsui Kanko Hotel,” was acquired by Onko Chishin in September 2023 and has been undergoing preparations to become their first proprietary facility. This rebranding marks the third property on a remote island, following “Iki Retreat by Onko Chishin” and “Goto Retreat by Onko Chishin.”

Rebun Island, located in the Sea of Japan, is the northernmost isolated island in Japan. With an average temperature of 19.7°C in August, it stays below 20°C, making it one of the coolest places in Hokkaido, ideal for activities such as hiking and trekking.

Through this rebranding, “Saryo” aims to serve as a showcase for the local region, establishing itself as a new summer resort destination. It offers a refreshing, otherworldly experience with comfortable coolness and a unique stay.

■The Meaning Behind the New Name REBUN HOTEL SARYO by Onko Chishin

The new name “REBUN HOTEL SARYO by Onko Chishin” represents the elegant flowers in full bloom on Rebun Island and the cool, gentle breezes that sweep across the island. The island’s distinctive traits—pleasant coolness and majestic nature—create a refreshing atmosphere that purifies the mind and body. The name “Saryo” was chosen with the hope of providing guests with a relaxing stay, surrounded by the clear air and stunning scenery that soothe both body and soul.

Changes Accompanying the Rebranding

To enhance the guest experience, the hotel has undergone partial renovations, incorporating designs that capture the essence of Rebun Island and creating calming guest rooms. Additionally, dinner service has been updated from a traditional multi-course meal to a buffet with free drinks, allowing guests to fully enjoy Hokkaido’s exquisite cuisine and beverages.

With the renovation, the hotel has also introduced Wi-Fi throughout the premises, ensuring a seamless internet experience even while staying on a remote island. The hotel now accommodates business travelers and plans to offer facilities for remote work and corporate training. With reliable communication infrastructure, guests can enjoy a comfortable stay while appreciating the abundant natural beauty.

Guest Rooms

Some renovations have been made, including window counters and wallpaper, to ensure that guests can fully experience the charm of Rebun Island. The rooms are adorned with artwork inspired by the island and crafts by Hokkaido-based artists. On clear days, guests can enjoy magnificent views of Mt. Rishiri from their windows.
